Despite its name, this was more than a college band. It derives its name from the Triangle Club, a student organization that wrote and performed musical shows, at Princeton. In 1923, the band began composing, arranging and playing jazz numbers for these shows. Barely a year later, in 1924, they were in the studio, cutting the first of several recordings made until 1932. The inventiveness and versatility of the young musicians who comprised the group are remarkable. This great recording was made in 1926. Peronnel include a few surprising names like Frank Orvis on clarinet and Herb Stanford on piano. The issue number of this Columbia is very unusual: 84-P, Mx 170206-1. I wonder which series this might be. It should be noted I did not find the exact sheet music, so I included some related covers.
