'A Program for the Christmas Season'
www.mccarter.org...The Tallis Scholars have spent over 40 years celebrating and revealing the ethereal beauty of the unaccompanied human voice, reigning as the acknowledged superstars of Renaissance sacred vocal music. They return to Richardson Auditorium in a special holiday program based on settings of the Magnificat by four diverse composers: Taverner (English), Part (Estonian) Praetorius (German) and Palestrina (Italian), as well as other texts associated with the Virgin by Sweelinck and Britten (note: this concert is presented in association with Princeton University Concerts and will take place at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall on the Princeton campus, not at McCarter Theatre)/nTHIS VIDEO: Peter Phillips and the Tallis Scholars performed on the 400th anniversary of the death of Palestrina in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome, where Palestrina had trained as a choirboy and later worked as Maestro di Cappella.
