This summer five members of the Princeton chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) are traveling to Ashaiman, Ghana, to spend eight weeks finishing the construction of a library that will serve both as an educational center and a community gathering place.
This video chronicles the first phase of the EWB Ghana library project, which began in 2008. During the first phase, EWB members laid the concrete foundation and main structural elements of the library and collected more than 4,000 books.
EWB members plan to finish construction of the library, to outfit it with furniture and books, and to install a digital infrastructure including netbooks and Internet access. The EWB team is also formulating educational programming that aims to foster traditional and digital literacy.
The EWB Ghana undergraduate team for the first phase of the project included Mohit Agrawal '11, Kwesi Adarkwa '11, Nizette Edwards '11, and Jane Yang '11. The team for the second phase of the project includes Jeremy Blair '13, Akhil Reddy '13, Elizabeth O'Grady '13, Buse Aktas '14, and Cole Freeman '14.
