We have put out hundreds of jazz records over the last few weeks, but they’ve come in small batches from smaller collections. It’s been a while since we had a larger one come in, so we are happy to have a very nice one to talk about today. This collection is solidly 70’s, pressings and music, so the music is wonderful, mostly modal, free or post-bop, and the prices are fairly low!

This collection features many later black/red and sky-blue label Impulse recordings (including some of this writer’s favorite records, by the Coltranes, Alice and John, Archie Shepp, Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders and more), many on ECM, Fantasy, Inner City, Verve and other smaller labels. Quite a few OJC’s (Original Jazz Classics reissues), many all-blue label Blue Notes, and some UA blue/white 70’s pressings, and lots of “two-fers”; double LP repackages of classic records on Blue Note, Prestige, Milestone, Impulse, etc. Finally, this collection is heavy on imports, particularly German, U.K, and Japanese.

The titles are exceptionally clean. The former owner took excellent care of them, so the covers and LPs are for the most part pristine. You folks who shop for jazz know just how rare that is!

There are a few gems in here, mostly scarce imports:

1) Roy Ayers “Live at the Montreaux Jazz Festival”, Polydor MP 2310, Japanese only, white label, $199.99

2) Lars Lysted Sextet “Jazz Under the Midnight Sun”, SWEDiSC SWELP-10, Swedish press, $99.99

3) John Tchicai “Cadentia Nova Danica”, Polydor 2343 015, UK press, $99.99

4) The Keith Tippet Group “You Are Here...I Am There” Polydor 2384 004, UK press, $99.99

Otherwise, there are 40 or so priced in the $25 -$40 range, and the rest are priced cheap to move, $1.99-$14.99, with just a handful higher.

If you are looking for a nice cross-section of inexpensive jazz records, it’s a great time to come visit us!

Please note: as always, these records are sold first come, first served. No phone calls or holds please. For those not familiar, please note that we are a walk-in store only; we do not handle any mail order.
