Denise Raquel Dunning is the Program Director of the Adolescent Girls' Advocacy & Leadership Initiative, a program implemented by International Health Programs of the Public Health Institute that promotes global health and development by enhancing the capacity of Latin American and African leaders to improve the health, education, and livelihoods of adolescent girls and young women. Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Sociology at the University of California Berkeley, Denise is conducting research on youth, gender, sexuality, and HIV prevention. She received a Masters in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, where she focused on international development and health after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Duke University. Denise is a native Spanish speaker who also speaks French, Portuguese, and German./nIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
