This Film: ‪Construction works for the Firestone Library, 1946‬ from the Princeton University Archives: http://diglib.princeton.edu/ead/getEad?id=ark:/88435/8g84mm25r/nWikipedia: Named after tire magnate Harvey Firestone. Firestone Library opened in 1948, as the first large American university library constructed after World War II.[2] Roughly 1.5 million volumes were moved during the summer of 1948 from East Pyne Hall, which until then had served as the University's main library. The library building was expanded in 1971 and again in 1988 and currently has more than 70 miles (110 km) of bookshelves[3], making Firestone one of the largest open-stack libraries in existence.[4] Though not the largest university library in the world, the library can make a legitimate claim to having more books per enrolled student of any university in the country.[5]/nHarvey Samuel Firestone (December 20, 1868 – February 7, 1938) was an American businessman, and the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, one of the first global makers of automobile tires.
