Heritage Square, Group 1: Bringing Trenton Arts Back to Trenton
Team: Kate, Mary, Mya, and Zoe D.

Project Overview
Bring Trenton Youth Arts Back to Trenton aims to connect Heritage Square with the Trenton Youth Arts program at Princeton. This program brings Trenton high school students to the Lewis Arts Complex at Princeton each Saturday to learn dance, orchestra, singing, or theater with Princeton faculty, staff, and student volunteers. This culminates in a spring performance in the Richardson Auditorium on Princeton University’s campus. Our project pitches hosting another performance in Trenton at either the Passage Theater or Patriot Theater at the War Memorial. Performing in Trenton will allow the local community easier access to their talent and encourage Trenton youth to see their city with as much importance as performing for an outside audience. It would also bring more foot traffic to the downtown area, boosting the local economy and making Trenton a true destination. In the words of Professor Majora Carter, “you do not need to leave your neighborhood to live in a better one,” and by promoting the arts, we want to show Trenton residents that they can not only live, but thrive in their city.
