As part of the 'Slow Motion' exhibition at Grounds For Sculpture, Omar Tate is creating an evolving dinner series as a companion activation to his living sculpture 'Blue', on view in the Domestic Arts building. Through this multidimensional practice, 'Blue' reflects on the role of sound, taste, sight, and smell in memory-work, forging a monument that honors the multiple roots that constitute Black history and experience.
Omar Tate, who is well-known for his culinary creations, identifies as an artist who uses food as one of his many mediums. His work is rooted in the values of nourishment and the reclamation of Black food traditions and cultural aesthetics that can be experienced through his Philadelphia-based restaurant, Honeysuckle, which Tate co-owns and operates alongside his wife and chef Cybille St. Aude-Tate. For 'Slow Motion,' Tate will work within the culinary spaces of Grounds For Sculpture to design an experience that speaks to the way that smells, taste, and sight can be poetic entry points to share memories.
'Slow Motion' is on view at Grounds For Sculpture May 5, 2024 – September 1, 2025.
