December, 1776. Christmas Day. The United States is less than 6 months old and its army is in shambles. The Continental has defeat after defeat and is on the verge of disbanding. The British Army is only a few day’s march from the American capital, with congress scrambling to retreat. As a brutal, ice-age winter sets in, the Continental troops are starved, battered, and freezing to death.
General George Washington, commander in chief of the Continental Army, has a daring plan to change the country’s fate. A general, whose second in command would love nothing more than to see him fail, must coordinate efforts between factions of a broken army and a band of spies to bring the fight to the enemy’s doorstep.
In this adventure, we’re traveling to lower Bucks County, where the Continental Army retreated to before turning around and taking the fight to the enemy. There, we’re crossing the river alongside a large group of dedicated reenactors, at Washington Crossing Historic Park, crossing in the same place and using the same method as Washington and his men, before marching the full 9 miles down to Trenton, New Jersey, where the tide turned for the Continental Army.
This is the Battle of Trenton on Part Time Explorer.
