Mid-January, 2011…New Arrivals: a large assortment of Mosaic Records Jazz LP Box sets!...We have just put out a nice collection of 15 out-of-print Mosaic Records deluxe box sets. Coupled with a similar-sized collection from a couple of weeks ago we now have over 30 of these rare sets in stock. Considering that there are only around 150 titles (on LP, there are more CD sets) that have been produced by this label, we have a pretty good percentage of the entire catalog./nFor those of you jazz lovers and collectors who are unfamiliar with this label, a little background info might be called for. Mosaic Records was founded in 1983 by Michael Cuscano (of Blue Note fame as consultant, producer, and reissue director). They are dedicated to issuing limited edition (generally 7,500 or less) deluxe box sets of jazz recordings which have fallen out-of-print. These sets are leased from the major record companies, usually for three to five years; once the lease is up, they are not allowed to manufacture more./nThe music is primarily jazz, with a little blue thrown in, and the styles range from big band/swing, through traditional and into the more modal modern jazz. They typically try to be "complete" in some sense: all the recordings of an artist on one label, for one year, or the entire output for those less-prolific artists, all the recordings of one small label, etc./nThe quantity of discs range from one to 23 per box, and they feature very beautiful booklets with extensive liner notes and many gorgeous back and white photos. While usually it is the originals that fetch the big bucks, almost all of the titles on this re-issue label are valuable. If you have any you wish to sell, let us know! The retail price of these sets in stock range from $25 to $300 or so./nFor those of you who are unfamiliar with our store, please note that we are a bricks-and-mortar, walk-in store only. Sorry, no mail order./nPrinceton Record Exchange
