Part 3 in a 6 part series. The discovery of the Bonampak murals in 1949 shocked archaeologists and shattered the Mayan myth once and for all, revealing a culture that glorified warfare, torture, human sacrifice and blood-letting in fulfillment of heavenly duties. Further archeological evidence led to the revelation that the Mayans risked their lives playing a mysterious and deadly ball game.
