www.mccarter.org...This Grammy-winning African-American a cappella ensemble has provided a soundtrack to worldwide movements of social justice and equality for over 30 years, and their variety of musical genres (blues, folk, gospel, hip-hop, reggae, African chants, lullabies) covers the full spectrum of human experience. Their powerful vocals, joined by hand percussion instruments, and accompanied by American Sign Language interpretation (ASL), create a blend of moving lyrics, narrative, and movement. In this special program, Sweet Honey pays tribute in song to three legendary figures of world, folk, and jazz music: Miriam Makeba, Odetta, Abbey Lincoln. At a Sweet Honey concert, hearing is believing that music can indeed change the world.
