http://www.ac-novisad.org…This year American Corner Novi Sad has prepared a numerous activities in order to mark popular American holiday Halloween. During the month of October children who were participating at the program "Kid's Corner" had a chance to learn about this holiday as well to find out how it is celebrated in United States. Our three volunteers Jelena, Milena and Laura worked with children on topics connected to Halloween in various techniques such as listening to scary stories, drawing scary creatures, playing characters from the stories etc.The central activity in marking Halloween was the Halloween party organized on Friday, October 28th from 6 to 8 pm. The party was attended by around 50 children age 1 to 12 who were for this occasion dressed like their favorite heroes. Students from Princeton University, who are actively volunteering at the American Corner, prepared a series of children's traditional Halloween games. ..The American Corners (AC) program is a United States Department of State-sponsored initiative inaugurated worldwide more than 10 years ago.
ACs are partnerships between U.S. embassies or consulates and local communities. They serve as a resource for residents of those local communities, offering access to information about American culture, society, and values, as well as information on educational opportunities in the United States.
There are almost 400 Corners in 60 countries all around the world under the program. The fundamental function of American Corners is to make information about the United States available to foreign publics at large. They provide access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book, video, and DVD collections, the Internet, and through local programming to the general public.
