A newly discovered collection of glass-plate negatives focused on Trenton, New Jersey, and shot between 1890 and 1910, reveals a world in rapid transition. At the New Jersey State Museum, Grant Castner’s early documentary photography is shown in stunning new prints for the first time, revealing everyday life as it was then—people shopping, working, relaxing, building new modes of transportation, and more.

Susan Wallner produced and directed the feature for State of the Arts. Joe Conlon was the Director of Photography and Dan Gordon narrates.
