May is National Water Safety Month. A year ago two of our officers almost lost their daughter to the number one cause of accidental deaths of toddlers aged one to four. Drowning. They are committed to helping others avoid the pain they went through, by sharing their experience. Courtney and Luis Navas are pretty much exactly like any other family. They take care of themselves, they make a good home for their kids, and they engage in everyday activities as a family. Like hanging out in their pool. On top of all of that, they are both committed to their careers…As police officers with the Princeton, NJ Police Department. As police officers, Det. Luis Navas and Ptl. Officer Courtney Navas, have responded to thousands of calls during their combined 23 years of service. When duty calls, they live it all. Anger, fights, worry and despair when things go bad or happiness, elation and humor when things go right. Regardless of the scenario, Det. Luis Navas and Ptl. Officer Courtney Navas have relied on their training and experience to be either helper, enforcer, or consoler. Then at the end of the day, as cops and many other people tend to do, they find comfort in steering their mind away from work and back towards the people who comfort them, their family. But on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 their training as police officers did not directly prepare them for what they were about to experience as parents.
