Effort: Raising money to fund a refurbishing effort at The Millstone Valley National Scenic Byway Headquarters/Visitor Center located at 2 Griggstown Causeway, Princeton NJ. Also, known as the Bridgetenders House, the visitor center was built in 1834 when the Delaware & Raitan Canal was constructed. This byway has been designated as a New Jersey and United States National scenic byway. The byway is home to historic towns, open fields, farms, unspoiled woodlands, natural wetlands, and wildlife. Help us preserve history and keep the doors open to the public! Volunteers here do a lot of things, like teaching history, general maintenance, winterizing this dwelling, holding meetings, and more in this historic building. This center also supports local farming, water sheds, and environmental sustainability efforts. Check out this this YouTube video to learn more about the Millstone Valley Scenic Byway. How: Teaming up with Jared Siegel, owner of Diablo Construction, New Jersey's hottest construction company, we plan to refurbish the headquarters/visitor center. Jared is known for doing some of the best construction work across the state of NJ! From restorations, awesome flooring, kitchen demos/remodels, wood reclaimed projects, and more! What: The visitor center needs to reestablish the stone walkway leading to the side porch entrance to make it an official handicap accessible building, The exterior porch posts, ceiling, trim, and benches need to be painted. The back deck needs to be pressured washed/finished, as it dangerously slippery when wet. Repairs and painting is needed on all the interior drywall and trim on both floors. The wooden first floor floorboards need to be cleaned and finished possibly using linseed oil/polyurethane. Finally, some of the light fixtures need to be reinstalled. The Delaware and Raitan Canal State park is one of central New Jersey's most popular recreational corridors for canoeing, jogging, hiking, bicycling, fishing, and horseback riding. This visitor center is operated by volunteers and they support all of these great activities. Their website is www.millstonevalley.org .
