Just Arrived: A 1,400+ Piece Classical Super Audio CD collection! Super Audio CDs (SACDs) were developed around 2000 by Sony and Philips to be the successor to CDs. They can offer more channels of sound (“surround sound” or 5.1), longer playing time (up to 4 or 5 hours), and have an extended dynamic range. They come in three forms: single layer, dual layer (longer playing time), and hybrid (with an HD layer and a regular CD layer). The first two require an SACD player, but the hybrids can be played in a regular CD player as well (in normal stereo). Most of the ones we have in stock are hybrids.
