If you buy local, 48% of your sale circulates back to the local community. On the other hand, if you buy from a chain retailer, only 13.6% of your sale comes back to the local community. In this talk, Debbie Schaeffer shares the importance and the benefits to us of buying local. She also highlights the effects of online buying on local businesses and job creation.

Debbie Schaeffer is the 3rd generation owner of Mrs. G TV & Appliances. Debbie is a passionate crusader for local independent businesses. She firmly believes that community-serving businesses are the backbone of our local economy, civic life, local charities, and wealth creation for millions of citizens, as well as a training ground for future generations of entrepreneurs.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
