The 30-year-old Manhattan socialite son of a millionaire hedge-fund founder allegedly killed his dad over the weekend after his allowance was cut and staged it to make it look like a suicide, according to a New York Daily News report.
Police charged Thomas Gilbert Jr. on Monday with the murder of his father, Thomas Gilbert Sr., founder of the Wainscott Capital hedge fund.
The apparent motive behind the brutal patricide, according to reports citing police sources: pops had cut Jr.'s weekly allowance and threatened to stop paying rent for his swanky Chelsea apartment.
The two Gilberts had reportedly been at odds with one another after the older Gilbert, founder of the Wainscott Capital hedge fund, attempted to wean his son off his teat.
On Sunday afternoon, the younger Gilbert arrived at his parent's multimillion-dollar home, armed with a .40-caliber Glock semi-automatic pistol and reportedly convinced his mother to leave the apartment by asking her to fetch him a sandwich.
That's when Jr. allegedly killed his father, before making a run for it.
Mrs. Gilbert returned to find her husband splayed on the ground with the murder weapon under his arm, in what appears to have been an attempt to make the death look like a suicide.
Authorities eventually caught their man, though, after riot gear-wearing cops chopped down the door of Gilbert Jr.'s apartment after he barricaded himself inside.
