Video from Chasing New Jersey: While hiking in the woods with a few friends, 22-year-old Rutgers student Darsh Patel was attacked and killed by a bear./nThe incident took place in the Apshawa Reserve in West Milford Township, New Jersey./nPatel's friends say they were being followed by a bear, and began to run when Patel was separated from the group. The group called the authorities because they couldn't find Patel, whose body was later discovered by police./nPolice say they euthanized the bear on scene after finding it nearby the body of Patel.
Bear attacks in New Jersey are extremely rare, the last death caused by a bear in the Garden State was back in 1852.
